UNIGOM presents the HyFoSy technique: a breakthrough in infertility diagnosis
As part of the preparations for the special campaign on the management of couple infertility and sterility, scheduled from January 19 to 22, 2026, in Goma, the University of Goma (UNIGOM) hosted a scientific conference on Saturday, January 17, 2026, dedicated to the presentation of the modern HyFoSy technique (Hysterosalpingo-Foam-Sonography).
Led by Dr. Sefu Masamba Polydor, a gynecologist-obstetrician and fertility specialist from the United States of America, this meeting brought together medical students, health professionals, and academic authorities, aiming to raise awareness about the medical, social, and human issues related to infertility, and to present a major innovation in couple fertility diagnosis,
Mr. Salem Mukoko, speaking on behalf of the University of Goma, emphasized that the issue of infertility and sterility goes far beyond the medical framework. According to him, "They deeply affect human dignity, psychological balance, family cohesion, and social stability," he stated. He reminded that UNIGOM considers this conference as a space for sharing, scientific reflection, training, and collaboration among health professionals, teachers, and students, in order to create a common front against silence, stigma, and preconceived ideas surrounding infertility.
In other words, the university does not limit itself to hosting the conference; it actively participates in reflection and awareness on this sensitive topic, valuing the role of education and scientific research for the well-being of the community.
The challenges and innovation: Clinique Notre Vie
On the side of Clinique Notre Vie (CLINOVIE), a partner in the initiative, it was highlighted that the management of infertility in the region still faces major challenges, particularly the lack of modern and suitable equipment. The general director, Mrs. Masika Zita, indicated that "limited access to modern, safe, and affordable diagnostic tools constitutes a major obstacle to effective management," emphasizing the need to strengthen the technical capacities of health facilities.
She explained that the introduction of the HyFoSy technique helps to fill part of this gap, providing patients with reliable, safe, and more accessible diagnosis, while facilitating the work of doctors in their management.
What does the HyFoSy technique consist of?
Dr. Sefu Masamba Polydor, the gynecologist-obstetrician and fertility specialist who presented the HyFoSy technique, indicated that it is a non-invasive method that allows checking the permeability of the fallopian tubes, a key factor in conception. The technique uses special foam and ultrasound, making it quick, safe, and less painful than traditional methods.
"This technique allows gynecologists to ethically decide whether they can manage a case or refer patients to other specialists," he specified. He also emphasized that the goal is to make this innovation accessible to all women in Goma, regardless of their social background, in order to contribute to equitable management of infertility: " We want this technique to be accessible to every woman living in Goma and facing sterility issues ". He added.
Present at the conference, the representative of the Provincial Health Division also praised the holding of this conference, which, according to him, comes at an opportune moment to contribute to reflection and the search for solutions to infertility, a phenomenon observed nationwide and particularly in the North Kivu province.
This conference organized by Clinique Notre Vie (CLINOVIE), in collaboration with the Provincial Council of the Order of Physicians of North Kivu (COPROM/NK) and the University of Goma (UNIGOM), is part of the dynamics of preparing the medical campaign announced by the university and demonstrates its commitment to promoting health, scientific innovation, and community service.
