The University of Goma is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Professor Ordinary Bitwe Mihanda Richard, which occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in Goma at CIMAK hospital.

Former Academic Secretary General, academic member of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Goma for many years, and General Director of the Higher Institute of Medical Techniques (ISTM), Professor Bitwe Mihanda Richard distinguished himself through his constant commitment to higher education, the training of health professionals, and the development of scientific research.

Throughout his career, he dedicated his knowledge, experience, and energy to training several generations of doctors and health professionals. His sense of duty, scientific rigor, and attachment to academic values will remain etched in the memory of the academic community.

Through this loss, the University of Goma loses an eminent teacher whose contributions have permanently marked the life of the institution and higher education in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In this painful ordeal, the academic authorities, scientific, administrative, technical, and labor staff, as well as the entire university community, extend their sincere condolences to his biological family, the ISTM community, his colleagues, his students, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and collaborating with him.

The University of Goma bows respectfully before the memory of this eminent scholar and expresses its deep gratitude for the services rendered to the nation through teaching and research.
