UNIGOM: Students and Entrepreneurs Introduced to the Use of Bitcoin in Practical Transactions Through the UNIGOM–Bridgesats Partnership

As part of the monthly activities outlined in the partnership between the University of Goma (UNIGOM) and Bridgesats, a meetup was organized this Friday, March 27, around an innovative and current theme: “Buying and Accepting Payments in Bitcoin.”

This meeting brought together students and entrepreneurs around a central objective: to move from theory to practice in the use of cryptocurrencies as an alternative payment solution, in a global context marked by the rapid evolution of financial technologies.

During this activity, participants benefited from practical demonstrations that allowed them to understand how Bitcoin transactions work. In total, 92 students received their first satoshis while learning to perform sending and receiving operations via the Fedi digital wallet.

The learners were also exposed to concrete use cases, including payment for airline tickets, hotel bookings, purchasing phone credit, and paying for television subscriptions in Bitcoin, thus demonstrating the diversity of possibilities offered by this technology.

A notable highlight of this session was the gradual integration of Bitcoin into certain internal economic activities of the university. In this regard, the UNIGOM farm, particularly the poultry house, now accepts payments in Bitcoin, with three chickens already sold via this method, reflecting a concrete and innovative local adoption.

Beyond the technical aspect, this meetup served as a genuine space for exchange, networking, and awareness for project holders, fostering the emergence of new ideas around the digital economy.

The organizers also announced the continuation of these sessions, with even more practical and immersive content aimed at enhancing students' skills and promoting the integration of digital financial tools into the local ecosystem.

Through this initiative, UNIGOM reaffirms its commitment to supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and the adaptation of students to contemporary technological changes.
