UNIGOM: The Leadership of Rector Muhindo Mughanda Celebrated Among the Inspiring Figures of Goma
In a context where youth are seeking benchmarks and inspiring role models, the Bustani ya Mabadiliko movement organized a reflection workshop on March 23, 2026, around the theme: "How to Become an Agent of Change".
At the end of these discussions, four prominent figures were highlighted for their commitment and contribution to the transformation of society, demonstrating different forms of leadership and impact.
Among these personalities are icons whose legacy continues to mark the collective consciousness of the city of Goma. The name Luc Nkulula, an engaged activist and emblematic figure of civic youth, remains associated with the struggle for justice, dignity, and civic participation. His journey, deeply rooted in values of integrity and commitment, continues to inspire numerous initiatives led by Congolese youth.
In this same dynamic, Floribert Bwanachui is recognized as a symbol of resistance against anti-values. His professional commitment and refusal to yield to corruption, at the cost of his life, make him a strong reference for a generation called to promote ethics and responsibility in public management.
Professor Kä Mana, for his part, embodies a major intellectual figure whose reflections have contributed to awakening consciousness about the identity, cultural, and political issues of the African continent. Through his writings and commitment, he has transmitted to future generations a vision based on critical thinking, dignity, and African renaissance.
Alongside these historical figures, Professor Ordinary Muhindo Mughanda, Rector of the University of Goma, has also been recognized as a living source of inspiration for youth. His leadership, marked by rigor, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence, illustrates the capacity for institutional transformation in service of training future generations.
Under his leadership, the University of Goma has experienced significant evolution, both in terms of infrastructure and the quality of teaching, reflecting a vision oriented towards practical learning and a culture of merit. His commitment to unity in diversity and collective responsibility has also been praised as a model of academic governance.
Beyond institutional advancements, his leadership is also distinguished by the promotion of values of unity and merit, banishing any form of tribalism within the university in favor of competence and excellence. His scientific rigor and high sense of work contribute today to the radiance of UNIGOM both on the national and international stage.
Through numerous initiatives, Rector Mughanda actively works to encourage and support research, innovation, and community service, thus placing the university at the heart of development dynamics. Convinced that change begins with individual responsibility, he regularly reminds that "if everyone fully assumed their role, instead of blaming each other, many positive transformations would be possible", a message full of hope for present and future generations.
This recognition highlights an essential reality: inspiring models are not limited to the past, but are also present through concrete actions and commitments that bring about change.
Through this recognition, 'Bustani ya Mabadiliko' reminds us that becoming an agent of change begins with identifying solid benchmarks that can inspire a conscious, engaged, and resolutely forward-looking youth towards building a better future.
The University of Goma, as an institution of training and knowledge production, plays its role in the emergence of responsible leaders, bearers of values and actors in the development of society.
